I have to say my favorite part of this photo is not the clothing, not the eyes, but the lipstick. The bright red implies the blood on the wild cats razor teeth. She is beautiful, her coat is majestic, her eyes read as volumes in greek poetry, but the hint of red tells the story that she can be vicous, she will bite, and she will eat not because she is cruel but becauase she has to. There is even a hint perhaps a double edged sword present by your light colored eyes. This color in the set up is ambigious. It can suggest a calm inner state in this jungle and an acceptance with her role or it can suggest an almost opposite heart breaking side where the color symbolizes a conflicing feeling to the red on her lips and what it may represent. Is her kiss deadly? Red in dream interpretation relates to feelings perhaps her words are true to her heart never guided by lies but with passion and verve and this may cause her in more than one setting to be seen as catty be it intentional or not.
The expression of the face is neither here nor there as a jungle animal stalking its prey or an eagle sizing up a meal a mile away.
I also take in with alarming interest the seemingly simply background of earthy tones which though at first glance may appear benign in fact hint at this dual nature I have spoke of. On the one hand we have a light color that is made with neutral tones and in the other we have the same color that has been darkened with shadows of course, but likewise the oil painter knows that this color cannot be created without a hint of red. It adds to the over all dualism in the portrait with subtle tones, with exception to the lipstick of course, but regardless it reflects your progressive adherence which deals with complex contrasts and an ever growing subtlety of style. A style which causes an air of mystery that is the essence of a feline.
Your composition has certainly grown tremendously and though several of your works are in black and white or grayscale values of varying degrees your color photographs show the same if not more of the careful considerations of your palette. Your coloring is becoming more dynamic and I hope to see more.
Without a doubt this particular work captures not only your beauty which is always astronomical, but it continues a trend of insistance by your part, the artist, saying time and time again with tedious effort and apparent proof that you are not just another pretty face, but that you are a serious and discerning talent worthy of that most sacred title: Artist.
Great work Anni, it should be among the best in your portfolio.
